What You Actually Need Before You Can Earn on TikTok

Before TikTok pays you a single peso, there are real requirements you have to meet. Here is exactly what they are and how to hit them faster.

TikTok is not a get-rich-quick platform. But it is one of the fastest ways a Filipino creator can go from zero to earning real money online — if you know what the requirements actually are before you start.

Most people skip this part. They post a few videos, nothing happens, and they quit. This guide exists so that does not happen to you.

The Two Ways TikTok Creators Earn

Before talking about requirements, you need to understand that TikTok has two different earning paths — and they have different rules.

Path 1 — TikTok's built-in monetization programs (like the Creator Rewards Program and LIVE Gifts). TikTok pays you directly based on your views and engagement.

Path 2 — Brand deals and affiliate income. Brands pay you to promote their products. You earn commission when your followers buy through your link. TikTok does not control this — you do.

Most beginners go for Path 2 first because the follower requirements are lower. But both paths are real and both are worth understanding.

Requirements for TikTok's Creator Rewards Program

This is TikTok's primary program for paying creators directly. As of 2026, the requirements are:

Requirement What You Need
Age 18 years old and above
Followers At least 10,000 followers
Video views At least 100,000 views in the last 30 days
Account type Creator account (not personal)
Content Original videos only — no reposts, no slideshows
Video length Minimum 1 minute per video
Location Must be in an eligible country

Important for Filipino creators: The Philippines is listed as an eligible country for TikTok monetization, but availability can change. Always verify on TikTok's official Creator Marketplace page before building your strategy around it.

Requirements for TikTok LIVE Gifts

If you go live on TikTok, viewers can send you virtual gifts that convert to real money. The requirements for this are lower:

  • At least 1,000 followers
  • 18 years old and above
  • Account in good standing (no policy violations)

LIVE Gifts is one of the fastest monetization paths for new creators because the follower threshold is much more achievable. Many Filipino creators reach 1,000 followers within their first 30–60 days of consistent posting.

Requirements for Brand Deals (No Follower Minimum)

Here is what most guides do not tell you: brands do not care about TikTok's official thresholds. They care about engagement and niche relevance.

A creator with 3,000 highly engaged followers in a specific niche — cooking, parenting, personal finance, tech — can land a paid brand deal. A creator with 50,000 followers and 0.5% engagement often cannot.

What you need for brand deals:

  • A clear niche — brands want to know exactly who your audience is
  • Consistent content — at least 20–30 videos showing your style and topics
  • Basic engagement rate — aim for 3–5% (total likes + comments ÷ total views × 100)
  • A way to contact you — email in your bio or a link to a contact page

You do not need a media kit to start. A simple message explaining your niche and audience size is enough for your first deal.

Requirements for TikTok Shop Affiliate

TikTok Shop is one of the most accessible earning paths for Filipino creators right now. You promote products from sellers on TikTok Shop and earn a commission when people buy through your video or LIVE.

Requirements to join TikTok Shop Affiliate (Philippines), per TikTok Shop Academy:

  • At least 600 followers
  • 18 years old and above
  • Not a Government, Politician, or Political Party account (GPPPA)
  • Content must comply with TikTok Community Guidelines
  • No prior record of e-commerce permissions being revoked by TikTok Shop
  • No platform violation risk on your associated TikTok Shop account

You will also need to verify your identity. Accepted documents for Filipino creators:

  • PhilSys ID (National ID)
  • Passport
  • Driver's License
  • TIN ID (issued by the BIR)
  • UMID (Unified Multi-Purpose ID)

Commission rates vary by product category, but 5–20% is common. A creator with just over 600 followers promoting the right product in the right niche can already start earning from TikTok Shop — making it one of the most accessible entry points for new Filipino creators.

The Unofficial Requirements Nobody Talks About

The official numbers above are just the starting line. Here is what actually determines whether you earn or not:

1. Consistency Over Quantity

Posting 3 videos a day for one week then disappearing for two weeks will not grow your account. TikTok's algorithm rewards accounts that post regularly. Aim for 1–2 videos per day, every day, for at least 90 days before judging your results.

2. A Device That Can Record Decent Video

You do not need a camera. A smartphone made in the last 3–4 years is enough. What you do need is decent lighting — natural light from a window is free and works better than most ring lights.

3. Understanding of What Content Works in Your Niche

Before you post your first video, spend 1–2 weeks watching the top creators in your niche. What hooks do they use? What length works? What topics get the most comments? This research will save you months of trial and error.

4. A Stable Internet Connection

You need this to upload videos and, if you plan to go LIVE, to stream without dropping. Mobile data works but WiFi is more reliable for LIVE streaming.

5. Patience for the First 30 Videos

Almost every creator's first 10–20 videos perform poorly. This is normal. TikTok is learning who your audience is during this period. Do not delete your early videos and do not quit before video 30.

A Realistic Timeline for Filipino TikTok Creators

Here is what a realistic first 90 days looks like if you start today and post consistently:

  • Days 1–30 — Building your content library, learning the algorithm, first 500–1,000 followers
  • Days 31–60 — One or two videos start getting traction, follower growth accelerates, first brand DMs may arrive
  • Days 61–90 — Approaching or hitting 1,000 followers, eligible for LIVE Gifts and TikTok Shop Affiliate

This is not a guarantee. But it is what consistent creators with a clear niche typically experience.

What to Do Right Now

If you have not started yet, here is the simplest version of your first step:

  1. Create a TikTok Creator account (not a personal account)
  2. Pick one niche you can talk about consistently — cooking, parenting, tech, personal finance, anything specific
  3. Post your first video today — it does not have to be perfect
  4. Study your analytics after every 5 videos — adjust based on what the data shows

The requirements to earn on TikTok are real. But they are also reachable for any Filipino creator who understands the rules and shows up consistently.
